Mulch installation pricing calculator
What to charge for a mulch job. Type the bed size and your costs; we do the yards, the labour and the markup. Numbers stay on this page.
Formula: ft² × depth ÷ 324 = yd³. We use 1.7 yd³ here; order 10% extra for settling.
Place plants on a photo, type your bed areas once, and the estimate fills itself — your prices remembered for every job after.

How do I work out how many cubic yards a bed needs?
Square feet × depth in inches ÷ 324 = cubic yards. A 180 ft² bed at 3 inches needs 1.67 yd³. Order about 10% extra for settling and uneven ground.
How much should I charge to install mulch?
Price = (material + labour) × (1 + markup). Material is yards × your delivered price per yard; labour is yards ÷ your crew's yards per hour × your hourly rate. Most crews spread 1–2 yd³ an hour and mark up 15–30%.
What is a typical installed price per cubic yard?
Usually $90–$150 per cubic yard in 2026, depending on material, access and local labour. The calculator shows your number from your costs, not an average.
